Towner East Wind introduces Holly School students to wind with hands-on activity

Invenergy's Towner East Wind team engaged students at Holly School with a hands-on activity to learn about wind energy up close, working in small groups to design their own wind turbine blades. Guided by their teacher, John Morlan, and Alexandra Thompson, an Invenergy engineer who helped design Towner East Wind, students explored biomimicry—drawing inspiration from nature to solve real-world challenges. By studying the shapes and structures of animal wings, they applied scientific principles to create their own blade designs. After building their prototypes, students put their designs to the test using volt meters to measure how much energy each turbine could produce.

In 2023, Morlan participated in a workshop with KidWind, a national organization that provides wind and renewable energy programming for educators and students. Invenergy has a long-term partnership with KidWind. Since 2022, Invenergy has invested more than $230,000 in KidWind to help build the next generation of energy leaders, reaching over 2,500 students and 200 educators around the country.

As Towner East Wind continues construction Kiowa County, Invenergy looks forward to continue building partnerships with the Holly School and education initiatives in the region.
